December big spenders may need new year debt help
Debt help could be required by Britain's extravagant spenders after it was revealed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) that retail sales saw a large annual increase in December 2009. Individual voluntary agreements (IVAs) or debt management plans could be the order of the day for cash-splashing Brits who want to get their finances in order after spending big over the festive period.
According to data from the BRC, UK retail sales grew by 4.2 per cent last month compared to the previous year, while growing numbers of consumers using the internet, mail or phone to order new purchases contributed to a 26.5 per cent annual increase in non-food, non-store sales.
The internet has certainly been a popular portal for keen shoppers over Christmas, with IMRG announcing that £132 million was spent online on Christmas day and £281 being shelled out the next day.
